Paws for Thanks: An open house event

Ark-Valley Humane Society (AVHS) is welcoming the public to their second annual Paws for Thanks, an open house event on Sunday November 5th between 12-3PM.  AVHS Board members and staff will be giving guided tours throughout the shelter. Feline & Fido Photo Contest & Fundraiser

Ark-Valley Humane Society (AVHS) is thrilled to announce that its 8th Annual Feline & Fido Photo Contest & Calendar will be returning this year, from Monday, Oct. 23 through Friday, Nov. 3.  Anyone can enter their photos at www.gogophotocontest.com/avhs. It is $5 per photo submission and $1 to vote (with a $5 minimum). Once a person has entered their pet’s photo, they can share the contest with family and friends to garner more votes.  The contestant with the most votes will have their photo featured on the cover of the 2024 AVHS......

Ark-Valley Humane Society will be the beneficiary of Moonlight Pizza & Brewpub’s Moonlight Monday promotion on September 25th. The restaurant at 242 F St in Salida will be donating 10 percent of all sales to AVHS.   We hope you will join us for some delicious pizza and good company on the 25th. It was a few days before Thanksgiving that Roper was brought in to AVHS. He was extremely emaciated and very hungry and thirsty. Roper was found tied to a tree in a very remote area off a trail in Four Mile, in Buena Vista. The kind person who found him said it was by chance, as he was far off the beaten path. When she first saw Roper he was tied to a tree and unable to break himself free. In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, it’s difficult for us to fully comprehend the devastation and hurt this natural disaster has caused so many people. Ark-Valley Humane Society is making efforts to help animals in areas affected by Hurricane Harvey by accepting transfers of adoptable animals from shelters that are taking lost and/or abandoned animals that are directly affected. On Wednesday, August 31, AVHS received seventeen cats from Acadian Animal Aid near Lafayette, Louisiana.
