Get A Pet Portrait Plus An Extra Dose of Love

Visit the home of any pet owner and in addition to meeting their pets, you will no doubt see photos of those beloved animals scattered throughout their house. In our county, you may also see delightful artwork created by community volunteers for our Ark-Valley Humane Society’s “Good Pet/Bad Portrait” fundraiser.

It is one of our most heartwarming annual events, held this year for the seventh time from February 20th through March 8th.

Participation is easy: make a payment to Ark-Valley Humane Society of $25.00 for one pet or $45 for 2 pets posed together, send in a few photos of your beloved pet(s) and receive a portrait that is created by volunteer artists.
Once our artists complete their work, their portraits are mailed directly to you or made available for pickup at AVHS’s main location, 701 Gregg Drive in Buena Vista, CO 81211.

The age range (no younger than 5) and talent of our enthusiastic volunteer artists vary, meaning your portrait might be a bit of a surprise, but definitely it will be a one-of-a-kind, truly unique work of art, drawn with heartfelt joy and love.

According to our board treasurer, Sarah, “My favorite picture of my sweet Aussie was drawn by a five year-old because it captured her eyes and her soul.”

Many of us in our valley have multiple charming portraits of our pets, and several of us have portraits made of our friends’ pets, giving them as presents. Last year, Harriet and Peggy said, “Best present ever, Judy” and in response donated to our shelter.

I think that is the real joy of this event – animal lovers and artists coming together with the common goal of raising money for the compassionate care and well-being of AVHS companion animals.
Your donation provides you with a charming portrait of your furry friend while you also experience the deep warmth of helping save the life of a precious animal.

I look at my portraits of Riley, Destiny, Pip and Gracie and picture a special cat and loyal dog finding their forever homes, filling them with love – making them complete.
