Supporting Homeless Pets Through Art, Heart, and Community Join Ark-Valley Humane Society for the 7th annual Good Pet/Bad Portrait fundraiser—a beloved community event that blends creativity, surprise, and support for animals in need. Pet lovers submit a photo of their pet and receive a one-of-a-kind portrait created by a volunteer artist. The catch? You never know what you’ll get—anything from a stunning masterpiece to a comical doodle. Every portrait is unique, made with love, and supports homeless pets. Ark-Valley Humane Society (AVHS) is welcoming the public to their second annual Paws for Thanks, an open house event on Sunday November 5th between 12-3PM.  AVHS Board members and staff will be giving guided tours throughout the shelter. Animal snuggles and light refreshments will be provided.  “We’re thrilled to welcome the community back for our second annual open house! We have had some big staffing changes over the past few months and are excited for you to meet our wonderful board and staff team while touring the shelter,” said AVHS Executive Director, Nikki Ritter. Ark-Valley Humane Society is located at 701 Gregg Drive in Buena Vista, Colorado. AVHS is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 12-5PM for pet adoptions, pet cremations, stray intake, owner/guardian surrenders, and more. AVHS serves all of Chaffee County.

Ark-Valley Humane Society (AVHS) is thrilled to announce that its 8th Annual Feline & Fido Photo Contest & Calendar will be returning this year, from Monday, Oct. 23 through Friday, Nov. 3.  Anyone can enter their photos at www.gogophotocontest.com/avhs. It is $5 per photo submission and $1 to vote (with a $5 minimum). Once a person has entered their pet's photo, they can share the contest with family and friends to garner more votes.  The contestant with the most votes will have their photo featured on the cover of the 2024 AVHS Calendar. Each of the top 12 photos with the most votes will be a featured pet photo for one of the twelve months. All photos submitted will be featured in smaller photos throughout the calendar.
