Pet of the Week - Heart of the Rockies Radio

Luna is our Heart of the Rockies Radio News pet of the week!    Luna first arrived at the shelter in early Fall with her older kitten, Finster. Finster was quickly adopted, but we soon found out that Luna had gotten pregnant AGAIN before she arrived at the shelter! She was quickly placed into a foster home where she gave birth to 4 healthy kittens. Luna was a great mother to her new kittens. Luna has now been spayed so she thankfully won’t be having any more litters.   In foster we......

Sammie is our Heart of the Rockies Radio News pet of the week!    Sweet Sammie was brought in as a stray cat earlier this month. Unfortunately no owner came forward to claim her. She’s a bit scared here in the shelter, and would love to find a home of her very own soon. Sammie recently got a dental cleaning, so her teeth are looking better than ever! Sammie was declawed in her front paws, so will need to be an indoor only cat for her safety.   She’s met a few......

Over the Rainbow Bridge

by: Judy Hamontre, AVHS Volunteer  On August 11, I said goodbye to my miniature schnauzer, Pip.  My home is empty, and my heart aches.  Just like so many other pet lovers, I find myself asking, “Why does losing a pet hurt so much”, and with guilt adding, “almost more than the loss of a human?” My friends and I have discussed this and postulated our theories.  I decided to see what authorities have to say on the subject. What I read from psychologists, veterinarians, and animal support organizations made me realize that......
