A 1200 square foot addition to the front of our building will provide a new reception area, new adoptable cat room, an outdoor cattery, and two private meet n’ greet rooms. Reorganization within the existing building will provide better flow and space for a surgery suite. Additionally the project will include a new roof and exterior to the existing building, centralized air conditioning, and a public ADA restroom.
❌ Current building layout is cramped and no longer meeting operational needs.
❌ Surgical area is cramped and currently located within disease isolation areas, putting healthy animals at risk.
❌ Diseased animals are not currently confined to one area of the building.
❌ Adoptable cats are currently located in a room that is noisy and has high foot traffic which is stressful for cats.
❌ Administrative offices are currently located in rooms and hallways that are cramped and noisy.
❌ Overall the building lacks storage space and as a result is cluttered.
❌ Our building is outdated and utilitarian in appearance.
❌ Currently our main office serving the public is cramped, noisy and lacks natural light
❌ There is nowhere private to facilitate an animal surrender, cremation intake or adoptions.
❌ Currently AVHS lacks the space and equipment to perform all surgeries. Only feline neuters can be performed in-house and other surgeries are costly and require transport.
✓ Create more space and improve the overall flow for shelter operations
✓ Offer a quieter room with open space and fresh air for cats
✓ Provide a more professional and welcoming presentation to the public
✓ Increase Ark-Valley’s capacity to address surgical needs in-house
With the sale of Sunshine Shelter and several major donations, the majority of funding for the project has been secured. The building project will cost an estimated $500,000 and naming opportunities will be available. We are aiming to complete the project in the coming year!
