In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, it’s difficult for us to fully comprehend the devastation and hurt this natural disaster has caused so many people. Ark-Valley Humane Society is making efforts to help animals in areas affected by Hurricane Harvey by accepting transfers of adoptable animals from shelters that are taking lost and/or abandoned animals that are directly affected. On Wednesday, August 31, AVHS received seventeen cats from Acadian Animal Aid near Lafayette, Louisiana. Ark-Valley Humane Society is honored to receive the ‘Lifesaving Luminary’ award from nationally recognized animal society, Best Friends Animal Society. Executive Director Jonathan McDonell accepted the award on behalf of the shelter while attending the Best Friend’s National Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey in July. Ark-Valley Humane Society won the award for the Mountain West Region, which includes Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. Steve and Viva Borbas are challenging the community of Chaffee County to help raise crucial funds for Ark-Valley Humane Society. For every contribution that is donated in the month of July, the Borbas’ will graciously add 25% more to a maximum contribution of $5,000 from them.
