September 12th - BV Canine Classic (details TBD)
September 18th - Loyal Duke's 1st Annual Dog Race: 3.5 mile and 1.5 mile Dog Run/Walk, to benefit the Salida Dog Club. Registration forms are available at Ark-Valley Humane Society and many other convenient locations throughout Chaffee County. All dogs registered before September 1st will receive a Salida Dog Club Bandana! For more info, call Laura Pintane at 719-539-2503 or Tom Pahnke at 719-539-9570. September 18th - The Bark-a-Que "Friend-raiser" Join us for the Ark-Valley Humane Society’s 2010 Barkaque at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds from noon to 4pm on Saturday, September 18.
This year’s event is a festival of pet-related resources, vendors, activities, and demonstrations. Friendly pets on leash are welcome to attend. The event is free. Vendors will have a BBQ lunch and pet related items for sale.
Families and kids can mingle for cuddles with adoptable kittens and cats in the Kit-n-Kaboodle tent. Meet the friendly alpaca, pet a pony, and greet the goat.
Visit pet resource and pet artist vendors, sit in on humane education classes like Canine Good Citizen, Local Service Dogs, Dog Behavior, Feral Cat Control, Camping with Canines.
Fall in love with an Ark-Valley adoptable dog or cat or kitten to take home with you!
Free bandanas for pets adopted at Barkaque or for previous adoptees who attend. Find gently used pet products for your dog or cat at our rummage sale. You can even learn how to give a professional massage to your furry friends.
Don’t miss the dog agility demonstrations; bring your own dog on a leash for an agility lesson!

In the morning, before coming to the AVHS Barkaque at the Fairgrounds, run the First Annual Loyal Duke’s Dog Race (contact Salida Dog Club to register now), where you will earn a Barkaque Buck for $1 off food, drink, or an Ark-Valley T-shirt. Bring that buck and your dog on over and spend the rest of the day with Ark-Valley people and pets.
