"Happy Tails" from the Ark-Valley Humane Society!!!
July 26, 2010 Hi, I apopted a cat named May May from you in March 2008. She is not just any cat, she's a Norwegian Forest Cat and a credit to her breed. My husband and I love her and can't remember what we did without her. She is sweet, loving, affectionate and a very pretty girl. When we adopted her she was 7 lbs (most NFCs weigh 10-18 lbs) scrawny, matted and very frightened on the ride home (I live in Denver) through a blizzard. Thank you for taking such good care of her while she was with you. She came to you because the couple that had her also had another cat who kept beating up on her. They did the kindest thing for her. Here she's an only cat but has a 3 year old collie brother. She of course rules the roost. She now weighs at least 10 lbs and I think is a happy girl. She is an indoor cat and doesn't go out because she's declawed by a previous owner. I wanted to send you this to let you know how well May May is doing in her 4ever home. Another happy ending for your files. Attached find pictures. Patricia L. Barber
We love Petey! We adopted him almost a year ago (last March) and he is doing amazing. We haven't had ANY negative issues with him. I can't believe he sat in your shelter for 6 months! Thanks so much for working with him all the time....and giving him the extra love he needed while he was with you. Attached is a pic of him with the baby, if you remember I was pregnant when we adopted him. Our 3 year old loves him more than any other pet we have....they play tug of war all the time!
Thanks again, The Landers Family

3/29/2010: Hi Michele Just wanted to touch base and send you some of my latest photo's of Chester and my daughter Aubrey. Chester is up to 62lbs. now. For a starved dog he sure is a picky eater and doesn't even really like table scraps. Can get about 3 cups of high quality food down him a day and that's it. Anyway he is handsome and spoiled. Aubrey has spared no expense rehabilitating him, including puppy play camp one day a week as we [can muster];l [also scheduled] a session with his doggie behavorialist. He is still absolutely petrified of men! She continues to work on that, with help from very patient men in her life. His favorite past time is running red rocks with her. We heard from a fellow musher who owned his brother. He was born in 99 so he is at least 10 almost or maybe already 11. He is lucky... for us to have found him. Anyway thought you would enjoy the photo! Tammy Sullivan

It's been over 2 years since Eve came into our lives! She is a very amazing dog! Even being blind she is 1 of the smartest dogs we have ever known! Eve is a extremely fast learner and knows what she wants and how to get it! She can even play ball as long as she can hear where it lands, and is so much fun to watch play. Her Dad is her best friend, but loves us all! Her favorite activity is going for rides and walks! We cannot imagine not having her.

Dear Michele and Ark-Valley Staff, I can't begin to tell you what a joy it has been to have Spicey in my home! I adopted her on Dec. 31, 2008 from your shelter and she was truly a wonderful gift! She loves walking in the neighborhood, and has made many friends, both dogs and humans. Last fall we attended beginning Obedience classes and she did really well.We plan to take the next session this spring. She is a wonderful companion and has brought much joy into my life! As you can see, she is a beautiful dog and loves to be brushed and go to the groomers. I am so glad that no one adopted her before I was able to make the trip from Denver last winter! Thank you for caring for her until she could have a forever home!

12/21/2009: Hi! I just wanted to say thanks for allowing me to adopt a cat a while ago. His name was 'Leroy' but we changed it to Grady. I was intent on adopting an adult rather than a kitten, since they typically find homes quicker. He has been such a joy and is turning out to be a wonderful addition. With him, he makes 3 cats in our family, and all 3 rule the house! My husband and I have built a cat tower out of peeled logs, sonatube, and carpet pieces. We also replaced a regular window with a bay window, for their viewing pleasure, since they never go outside. Grady has remained very quiet. Occasionally, he'll sneak up on you and loudly say "Gyow!", like he's smiling and announcing his presence! He loves sleeping in the sun, and on what ever soft spot he claims. His favorite spots change pretty often, which is surprising. The other 2 have consistent spots. I've included some pictures of the very spoiled one. Thank you for having an exceptionally compassionate staff and for the wonderful work you all do! Warmest regards, Debbie Benson

Herbie and Hancock were unwanted cast-offs from a hunting dog outfit that are now together in a loving home - 82#'s and counting at Christmastime! - and entertaining their new "pack members" with two big personalities!

11/19/2009: We wanted to update you on Ellie. She has been with us for a week and we are enjoying her so much. She is absolutely adorable, feisty, loving and great fun ! We will see you on 11/27 for her booster. Til then, thought you'd love to see some photos. She discovered the basket with the blanket on her own and has claimed it as hers ! Thank you so much !

11/11/2009: Hi there, We are the family who adopted Lewis, the Blue Russian lover boy. As our other cat, Pooter, refused to have anything to do with our 3 ½ year old daughter, Jordan, we had promised her we would find a cat who would actually let her pet it. We had our doubts about finding such a rare cat, in addition to finding a cat who would fit in with our home of one other cat and two Golden Retrievers. Well, we couldn’t be happier with Lewis, now known as Stitch, or Stitchy, or Stitchers!! He is absolutely wonderful and has become a full member of our home so fast! He has adopted Jordan and sleeps with her every night. He knows it’s time when we all gather in her bedroom for prayers. He is always right there, purring away! We’re not the only ones happy with Stitch, as Pooter actually comes out of the bedroom to play with him. So, thank you for helping us find the perfect cat. I was beginning to wonder if such existed! Attached is a photo of Stitch and Jordan after prayers one night. Thank you again, and we are definitely fans of the Shelter and plan to contribute to your much-needed facility as much as we can. Happy in Salida with Stitch, Felicia, Mike, and Jordan
10/13/2010:Michele, I just want to let you know what a wonderful dog Prajna is. In case you’re curious the name Prajna means wisdom in Sanskrit. He is extremely good-natured and is very well behaved for an 8 month old puppy. He is learning stay and all the basic obedience stuff. And he never chews anything he is not supposed to. There are a half dozen dog toys and raw hides for him to pick from... He is wonderful with Teo; they have a blast together. And he & Kinks are getting along great now as you can see from the photos of the Tug-of-war and them laying together. I also have him doing multiple agility jumps and hoops as well as a tunnel. He learns really fast. He can catch Frisbees just from a couple of feet in front of him so far. I keep waiting for the deep dark secret to surface. He is such a fantastic dog I just don’t know what the catch is. Please pass this info on to your staff and thank you again.

9/17/2009:Hello Ark Valley Humane Society-

9/15/2009:Hello!
Attached is a photo of George on the couch, next to the window where he
watches the street and the squirrels and anything else that walks by.
George is a very sweet, loving cat who needs at least two sessions a day
of sitting on us and purring. We are pleased to provide him that (and
anything else he wants). When he sits on us, he flips his head backward
and looks at us upside down as we stroke his throat. Very cute.
George has a home forever. I love a happy ending (beginning).
